What is a Concrete Pump?

A concrete pump is a machine used for transferring wet ready mix concrete or liquid screed to the lay site; there are two types of concrete pump:

Boom pumps use a robotic arm to deliver ready mix concrete and and screed accurately and are popularly used on large popularly used on construction sites due to their ability to pump large volumes of concrete quickly.

Boomless pump, such as our boomless minipump, as the name suggests, lack this robotic arm and instead rely on laying pipes from the vehicle to the lay site. Our minipump is developed it specifically so that it can deliver liquid concrete over 100m vertically as well as 200m horizontally.

Ready Mix Concrete Prices Guide
10th January 2019

Our ready mix concrete prices are cost-effective, especially for large-scale projects. However, there are a few things you can do to avoid spending more than you need to.

Measure for ready mix concrete correctly

We supply the exact amount of concrete you specify, and our ready mix concrete prices work on a volume-based system. If you measure your site correctly, this ensures that you only ever pay for the amount you need and use, but if you under or overestimate the volume of concrete required for your project, this can prove costly.

If you end up ordering too much concrete and need to send some back, you will need to pay disposal costs unless the batch is fit to be remixed and resold in accordance with our returns policy. Alternatively, ordering too little concrete can prove equally costly in terms of potential delays to your project and can compromise its effectiveness.

You can use our online concrete volume calculator tool to work out how much ready mix concrete you will require for your project, to ensure you only pay the best price for your ready mix concrete. If you have any further enquiries about estimating the volume of concrete needed for your project, call our expert team today on 0117 958 2090.

Prepare for your concrete delivery in advance

Our concrete mixer trucks can deliver ready mixed concrete up to 2.4m from the rear of the vehicle and are allotted a delivery time of 30 minutes. If a delivery truck is required on your site for longer than this period, then this can affect your ready mix concrete price.

There is no point in our concrete delivery truck turning up with your batch if you haven’t thought of a way to get it to your site, as this will mean a lot of wasted time and potentially lead to additional costs for concrete disposal.

You should therefore consider if your site has any obstruction issues and are prepared to receive your concrete delivery. If your site is impossible to access for a mixer, then why not consider one of our concrete pumps for hire? We have a range of boomless and boom pumps available that make easy work of even the most difficult to access sites.

To discuss our ready mix concrete prices in length, or to arrange quote, don’t hesitate to call us today on 0117 958 2090.

When should screeds be used over concrete?
14th December 2018

Our concrete experts share their top tips on why liquid screeds can be preferred to ready mix concrete

Liquid screeds have huge benefits in all kinds of construction projects. Whilst concrete is a big favourite for large-scale, often outdoor projects, the flowability and smoothness of screeds presents a good option for smaller indoor projects. Check out our top reasons for choosing screeds in your project.

Underfloor heating

Perhaps the biggest advantage of screeds is that they can be used in conjunction with underfloor heating. Liquid screed will flow around your heating pipework perfectly, meaning that there are no air gaps for heat to escape into. Heat can rise from your heating through liquid screed a lot more effectively than it can through concrete, making it perfect for indoor projects.

A smoother finish

Liquid screed is completely self-evening. It doesn’t crack or curl at all, it doesn’t need sealing and it can be used on dry and wet areas. Whilst ready mix concrete is used for all kinds of construction projects, like pathways, driveways and even conservatories, screed flooring doesn’t leave lumps and bumps, making it better for projects that you’d like a smoother finish on.

Quicker job

You'll be pleased to know that screed has a quick drying time. If you’re running your project to a tight deadline, then screed will be ready between 24 and 48 hours. This means that’s there’s little disruption whilst the screed is being installed; the drying time will depend on the depth and size of the project.

What’s the difference between boom pumps and boomless pumps?
13th December 2018

When ready mix concrete or liquid screed is laid at a site, it needs a concrete pump of some kind to transfer the wet mix. The specifics of your project and the volume of concrete that you need for it will determine which of the two pumps you’ll need, but what are the key differences between the two?

Boom pumps are often used in bigger jobs. They use a remote-controlled robotic arm to deliver concrete with precision. Boom pumps don’t have to be as close to the site as they have the arm to help, and they save a lot of manual labour. They are suitable for commercial and residential jobs and are useful for accessing heights; it’s a favourite with many for their quick working time, extendable reach and cost efficiency.

Boomless pumps, as you may have guessed from the name, lack the robotic arm of the boom. Instead of transferring concrete via the boom, boomless pumps lay concrete straight from the vehicle via pipes. Our minipump however is still capable of delivering concrete over 100m vertically and 200m horizontally.

Still need to discuss which pump you’d need for your project? Contact us on 0117 958 2090 and we’ll answer any and all questions that you may have about pumping.
