Key benefits of our concrete for construction

Our concrete mixes are made for delivery from a central plant, with each batch made to the client's bespoke specifications. Here are the key benefits of choosing our concrete mixes for your project:

When you use our concrete mixes, you only pay for what you use, cutting your costs when compared with mixing your own concrete. It also means that you don't need to pay for a mixer on site to mix your cement for you.

We deliver directly to you on site, so there's no need to invest in proper concrete storage either, which will also save you money on your project.

You can feel confident that you will receive a high-quality concrete product by using our concrete mixes. We work to highly maintained governing standards and use efficient plant mixing methods to ensure consistent concrete quality at all times.

You may be surprised to know that our concrete mixes are eco-friendly! The core ingredients of concrete are cement, water and aggregate, and these are all in abundant supply and don’t have as great an impact on the environment when they are extracted.

As all batches of concrete mix are custom made, there is little or no wastage and any surplus materials can be easily reclaimed and refurbished back to their natural condition with leftover concrete mixes being readily reused or recycled.

We are the right people for you – let’s work together!

Why Build a Concrete House?
17th June 2021

Concrete – it’s a grey, dull substance. But it can make beautiful homes. Chosen for its durability, versatility, and easy transport to site, concrete is a popular choice for people looking to build or extend their home.

But this time, we’re not talking about the concrete blocks that are commonly used to construct properties and housing estates.

Poured and precast concrete is one of the most popular new ways to build a house, with more people saying goodbye to concrete blocks, and opting for the angled lines and soft curves of concrete-filled custom-made moulds.

Additives are usually added to the standard concrete mix to give it more favourable properties. Thanks to the reinforced mix, concrete houses are more energy efficient, more insect and mould resistant, and more disaster resistant than houses made from standard building materials.

The fact that concrete houses are more expensive doesn’t put people off. That’s because properties made from concrete are more cost-effective in the long run – think lower energy bills, and less maintenance and upkeep.

Combined with industrial-esque glass and steel, concrete is the perfect choice for people that not only want to make a statement, but for people who want to be more environmentally friendly when it comes to heating, and constructing their home.

Wright Minimix provides concrete pumping services

It goes without saying that if you’re going to build a property made entirely from concrete, you’ll need a concrete pump. At Wright Minimix, we have six concrete pumps available, meaning we can service all scales of concrete pumping.

If you’re looking to contract a concrete pumping company, get in touch with Wright Minimix team. They’ll be able to advise you on the concrete mix and pump required to complete the project and provide a fast and reliable concrete pumping service. Give the team a call on 0117 958 2090.

Bricks vs solid concrete blocks: which is better?
31st March 2021

There are several main differences between clay bricks and concrete blocks, in terms of composition and usage. As a building material, they should be carefully selected according to the type of project and the intended use of the building. We break down the benefits of each.

The differences between bricks and solid concrete blocks

Bricks and concrete blocks are made from different raw materials, meaning they have different structural compositions. Brick is made up of sand, lime and concrete materials, while concrete blocks are produced from aggregate consisting of crushed sand or stone.

Concrete blocks have a much higher water resistance than bricks, and their compressive strength is higher. Concrete has a shorter life than brick, though it still gives efficient results for up to 100 years. It is also incredible durable and can be painted more easily than brick, which secretes metallic salts that can cause paint to peel off.

One of the main advantages of solid concrete blocks is that they offer outstanding fire resistance and the very highest fire safety rating. They're often favoured for their thermal efficiency and sound insulation.

Which is better?

There is no simple answer to this, as it depends on the nature of your project and the intended use of the building. If sound insulation, fire resistance and thermal efficiency are priorities, then solid concrete blocks could be the right choice for your construction project. It's also worth noting that concrete blocks can be painted easier than brick can, giving you more flexibility in terms of design options and finishes.

About our solid concrete blocks

We supply high-strength 100mm 7.3N solid concrete blocks for use in cavity and solid walls, load-bearing and solid partitions, columns and block and beam flooring.

Our concrete blocks have a tolerance of D1, a mean compressive strength of 3.6 - 30N/mm2 (unit strength) and a shear bond strength of 0.15N/mm2 (tabulated value). Available in packs of 88, they are available for delivery or collection from our concrete plant in Avonmouth, where they are manufactured.

Concrete pumping: what you need to know
16th February 2021

Our concrete specialists break down everything you need to know about concrete pumping and how to calculate the volume of concrete your project will need.

What is a concrete pump?

A concrete pump is a machine used for transferring wet ready mix concrete or liquid screen to the lay site. The two types of concrete pump are boom pumps and boomless pumps.

Boom pumps use a robotic arm to accurately deliver ready mix concrete and screed. Their ability to pump large volumes of concrete quickly makes them a popular choice for large construction sites. Boomless pumps lack the robotic arm. Instead, they transfer concrete via pipes that are laid between the vehicle and the lay site. Our boomless minipump is designed to deliver liquid concrete over 100m vertically as well as 200m horizontally.

How much concrete will you need?

If you’re unsure how much concrete you’ll need for your construction project, our handy volume calculator will help. Simply enter the dimensions of the area that requires concreting to calculate the volume of concrete you’ll need for the job.

Why choose Wright Minimix?

We have the very best machinery at hand, including the UK’s largest concrete pump and the innovative mini pump, which is ideal for delivering concrete to sites with accessibility issues.

Benefits of hiring a concrete pump
25th January 2021

Our concrete specialists explore how hiring a concrete pump can solve accessibility issues, while saving time and resources for your construction project.

Solve accessibility issues

In difficult to access areas that cannot be reached by a concrete mixer truck, concrete delivery becomes a lot more challenging. Without a concrete pump, you’ll be forced to rely on manual labour and wheelbarrows to get your ready mix concrete where you need it. Time constraints are a big concern in this scenario too, as the concrete will need to be transported within a set timeframe to ensure it doesn’t start to cure.

Transporting your concrete this way can be wasteful, inefficient and costly, not to mention downright impossible for large-scale projects that require a large volume of concrete. Hiring a concrete pump solves all the problems, as no site is too difficult to access for our boom pumps or innovative mini pumps

Save time

Concrete pumping is the most efficient method of concrete delivery, making it an ideal choice if you’re working to tight deadlines. Hiring a concrete pump is the best way to guarantee that ready mix concrete is laid in the shortest amount of time possible. Our pumps are capable of pumping up to 180 m3 of concrete per hour, making them a quick and affordable solution for delivering your concrete mix to your site.

Free up manpower

If you’re working on a larger DIY project, chances are you won’t have the necessary manpower to help you transport your concrete from the mixer to where you need it within the required timeframe. A concrete pump helps you get around this, allowing you to focus your manpower where you need it the most.

Wright Minimix has built an unrivalled reputation as providers of efficient concrete delivery using the latest concrete pumps. To find out about hiring a concrete pump for your project, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our friendly team on 0117 985 2090.
