Yes, provided we have not batched the concrete already. Generally, cancellations less than 2 hours before delivery may not be possible due to the above.

Once the concrete arrives on site, you will normally have between 1 and 2 hours to place, level, compact and finish the concrete.

You should ensure that the (agreed) area for the pump is accessible and clear for set up and access for the mixers. If possible, provide a bag of cement for grouting the line (otherwise we can provide another product at a small charge).

It is your responsibility to wash out the hopper of the pump after finishing the pour, then you must provide a box 1.5m by 1.5m by 0.3m high lined with plastic that we can use. The waste is your responsibility to move and dispose of.

The Advantages of Concrete Building Blocks
28th September 2020

Concrete building blocks are popular building materials for many reasons - they’re readily available, affordable, and strong – and despite being man-made, concrete blocks are also a sustainable choice. As leading manufacturers and suppliers of quality concrete products in the South, our concreting experts outline some of the benefits of concrete blocks for construction.

Strong & durable

As with the majority of concrete-made structures, the natural components in concrete mean that concrete blocks are strong and able to stand the test of time, and as concrete tends to get stronger with time, it makes concrete blocks a great candidate for buildings, security barriers and block walls.

Fire resistant

Concrete blocks also have a high thermal mass which means they are extremely effective at absorbing and storing heat. Where a wooden structure will quickly succumb to flames, a concrete block building can resist them and limit fire’s ability to spread quickly.

To protect the safety and integrity of your project, all our concrete blocks at Wright Mini Mix are fire-resistant, boasting a fire safety grade of A1, the very highest rating available.

Sustainable

When a building is designed and constructed well, concrete blocks help keep it cool during the summer months and warm in the winter. This allows the building to achieve the highest levels of long-term energy efficiency possible and contributes to the building’s overall sustainability and low running costs.

Cost-effective solution

Oftentimes, environmentally friendly choices come with a hefty price tag. Concrete blocks remain affordable, especially since they allow for rapid construction on any project, saving not only money, but time.

If you’re looking for high quality concrete blocks at fantastic prices for your residential or commercial project, go to our concrete blocks page to discover more about the blocks from the South’s leading manufacturer and supplier of concrete products.

How is ready mix concrete delivered?
09th September 2020

Due to its volatile nature, concrete has always had meticulous methods and ways of being delivered, and ready mix concrete is no exception. Read on to find out how ready mix concrete is delivered.

At the mixing site

Ready mix concrete typically travels from it starting point at the mixing site to its final destination in a mixer truck. Mixer trucks are used especially for concrete mix because this vehicle has a rotating mixer drum which is usually set at an angle, and inside this mixer drum is a set of fins that are set up in a spiral configuration – allowing the concrete to load and mix when the drum rotates in one direction and to discharge when it goes the other way.

Transportation

Mixer trucks keep ready mix concrete at the right consistency after it has been mixed at its original starting point, however sometimes they even sometimes do all the mixing while delivering. This solves the problem of premature hardening or slump loss that can result from delays between mixing and transportation. It also allows concrete to be hauled to sites which are quite a distance away from the starting point. When this needs to occur, the concrete is mixed and loaded, then taken to the job site with the drum rotating at between 2 and 6 rotations per minute, which helps to make sure that it remains at optimum consistency when it arrives at the job site.

The drums on mixer trucks are designed to be filled at between 60 and 80 percent capacity, depending whether the drum is acting as mixer or agitator. If the ready mix concrete isn’t transported in time or is exposed to significant temperature changes, it may experience a change in consistency, in which case more water can be added if the consistency becomes too thick. As a general rule of thumb, ready mix concrete should be discharged within 90 minutes and before 300 revolutions after water was added, unless the purchaser specifies otherwise.

Offloading

The truck specifications are Important factors to consider when delivering ready mix concrete, and this may depend on the location its destination, and how easy it is to get the truck in and out of the drop-off site. For example, a smaller 4-wheel mixer truck is likely to be able to fit into tighter spots and harder to reach places than their larger counterparts.

Ensuring a smooth delivery

Tips for pouring concrete in hot weather
20th July 2020

If your concrete pour falls on a hot summer day, don’t despair, our experts share their top tips for helping you install the perfect concrete pour even in the warm weather.

How does heat affect concrete?

Just like your laundry on a hot day, concrete dries, or cures, much quicker than usual in warmer weather. This is a problem because as part of the curing process, the concrete mix needs to hydrate (it needs to form crystals as it absorbs the water) in order to form the strength and durability the construction material is famous for. When the curing process is sped up however, the concrete struggles to form these all-important crystals which means it might not be as strong as you’d expect, resulting in cracks and weakness.

Avoid laying concrete between 11am and 3pm

Whenever you can, avoid laying concrete between the hottest part of the day, which is usually between 11am and 3pm. This way the concrete will be able to begin to cure in cooler temperatures and so form the bonds that make this construction material so renowned for its strength and durability.

Prepare the area before you begin

Before you begin your concrete pour, make sure the pour site is fully prepared and the surrounding area clear so you can install the concrete quickly and efficiently. It’s also a good idea to keep any tools you’ll be using cool by storing them in a shady spot.

Create shade over the concrete

Once the concrete has been laid, try to cover as much of it up as you can by creating shade. This can be very simple, such a hanging tarpaulin or a sheet over the concrete. If there is nowhere to hang the sheets, you may need to create them yourself by installing temporary poles.

Let the ready mix concrete professionals do it for you

Of course, the easiest way to ensure your concrete pour is successful is to call in the professionals. Opting for ready mixed concrete means you can get on with the pour directly from the truck, so the concrete spends less time exposed to the air. It also means experts, who understand precisely how concrete is made, will mix your concrete to guarantee it’s the right mix for your needs.
